Overview

Navitas is ready to invest in you! We are seeking a Test Engineering Manager in Ann Arbor, Michigan to lead and grow our product development battery testing team. This role is responsible for managing the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all product development testing activities, ensuring battery safety, performance, and compliance with regulatory and customer requirements. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the test engineering team (mechanical, electrical, and software-focused engineers and technicians).
  • Develop and maintain test plans, procedures, and protocols for lithium-ion cell, module, and pack-level testing (performance, life cycle, abuse, thermal, vibration, environmental).
  • Oversee the commissioning, calibration, and maintenance of testing equipment and test labs (including cyclers, chambers, safety systems).
  • Ensure data quality, traceability, and analysis to support design validation, root cause investigations, and continuous product improvement.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Product Engineering, and Quality to support DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) and regulatory compliance (UL, UN38.3, ISO26262, MIL-PRF, etc.).
  • Implement and maintain health and safety standards within the testing environment.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, and resource planning for test projects, including those involving outsourced testing.
  • Evaluate and implement new testing technologies and automation to improve lab efficiency and throughput.
  • Provide technical mentorship and career development for test engineers and technicians.
  • Prepare and present detailed technical reports, test summaries, and performance analyses to internal and external stakeholders
  • Performs in a manner that will prevent errors and omissions
  • Provides advisory support and assistance to the department manager as needed
  • Responsible for meeting team targets and key performance indicators
  • Follow all safety guidelines and operate in a safe manner
  • Physical presence on the job is essential
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in battery testing, validation, or related engineering roles.
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership or management position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be comfortable supporting US-military funded work and building products for military testing and use
  • Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery systems, electrochemical testing methods, and failure modes.
  • Experience with high-voltage safety standards and test lab operations.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, battery cyclers, environmental chambers, and test automation.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

ITAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U.S. Government International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) the individual must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
