Overview

Navitas is ready to invest in you! We are seeking an R&D Scientist in Ann Arbor, Michigan that will work under the direction of senior technical staff members to produce, test and evaluate lithium battery materials, electrodes, and other cell components.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemistry-type laboratory work to prepare battery material samples, battery electrodes, and lithium battery test cells.
  • Operate lab equipment, including cell assembly equipment, mixing and coating equipment, cell testing equipment, glove boxes, optical and electron microscopes, and analytical instruments.
  • Test data work up, visualization, interpretation and reporting.
  • Utilize cell models and tools to design and analyze electrodes and cells.
  • Write and contribute to reports and presentations as directed.
  • Present data and conclusions to the senior technical staff.
  • Participate in lab management functions (equipment/assets/area hygiene, maintenance and management; chemical hygiene; environment, health and safety; quality system; etc.) as assigned.
  • Comply with Navitas policies and procedures.
  • On site presence is essential and necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science (other STEM degrees may be considered with 2+ years of battery industry experience)
  • Lithium/Lithium-ion battery coursework or industry experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be comfortable supporting US Military-funded work and building products for military testing and use
  • Familiarity with battery science/technology, materials synthesis, materials analysis, electrode mixing/coating, lithium cell assembly, battery cell formation and/or battery cell testing
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

ITAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U.S. Government International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) the individual must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
